Spring Into Action Blog Hop: Porch Refresh

It is spring already, it feels as if this year is already slipping away.  The weeks have turned into months and although we have completed home projects I have let the blogging slip away from me as well!  So excited to get back into the swing of things with this blog hop with some talented ladies.

Thank you so much for joining us, as we Spring into Action refreshing a space in our homes.  If you are joining me from Mimi’s Entryway project, at Unlikely Martha,   welcome and I am so happy you have stopped by.  If not, I have joined 13 other lovely ladies for a blog hop and I will invite you to see what they have been working on at the end of this post.

For my spring project I decided it was time to spruce up my front porch.  I am usually very diligent about decorating for the holidays.  However,  this year when Christmas was gone and packed away I didn’t get back into that decorating spirit.  As a result my porch was a pretty sad sight.   Thankfully, this Spring into Action hop came at the perfect time.

I like to think the front porch is an extension of the home, and the first impression when someone comes to visit.  Let’s say, we weren’t putting our best foot forward.    One of my favorite things to do before refreshing a space is pull from Pinterest for inspiration.  Here are some porches that caught my attention for ideas this spring.

Usually my porch really gravitates towards a farmhouse style, but I was excited to change the mood a bit and add some more color.  The elements that caught my attention from these porches were: color, plants and bold, black and white patterns.

After cleaning off the area, full of gifts from holiday’s past.  I had not planned on moving the furniture around but then decided, why not? I settled on changing the location of the bench and then giving the rocking chairs an intimate corner on the other side.

The colors on this fun Kilim style pillow really changed the space for me.  Then it was all about plants, plants and more plants.

This tiered tray is always fun to decorate and I am excited about growing some herbs.  Hopefully, I can keep them alive long enough to enjoy actually using them.

I became a fan of the layered rug look from winter, and went even bolder with a longer rug under the new door mat. This and the macrame pot holders are my favorite addition.  Also, I am surprised to report that I found them all at Walmart.  Almost everything else in this refresh was something I already owned.  Shopping my home first is my favorite activity, because I am certainly a budget decorator.

What is a spring porch without some floral touches?  I kept the frame on the front door and placed some pretty faux flowers in the cross to freshen it up for spring.  This is an easy and practically free update.

Looking over to this side, this corner is much brighter. Plus the wall hanging adds some much needed texture and interest.  I think I have been fighting my home giving off too much of  bohemian vibe, but adding some of these elements while keeping the farmhouse touches ended up being a fun blend.

We have about five humming birds that frequent our yard.  Watching them from the porch has become a family activity.  We are all ready to hang out in the evenings and enjoy the porch before summer really sets in.   I hope my front porch tour has put some cheer in your day, and maybe even sparked your creativity to refresh a space for spring!  Do you already have a project in mind? Are you also a budget decorator who likes to shop your home?  Leave me a comment letting me know, I would love to hear from you!
