Hello! I am participating in a fall blog hop with a number of lovely ladies. We are all opening our homes and sharing a fall tour, I have included links to all other tours at the end of this post. So let’s get started!
If you don’t already know me; let me give you a little info about fall at my house. My family of five reside in Phoenix, AZ and well September isn’t really fall here at all. It’s an extension of a hot, hot summer and sometimes September can be warmer than August! However, I do still crave the coziness of fall and of course a pumpkin spice coffee but mine will most likely be iced. So for my September decorating I don’t typically break out the pumpkins just yet. It try to focus on more of a late summer, early Autumn theme. This year has been no different.
Usually I am very excited to decorate my living room and especially my mantle but this year, I started a little differently. Since we have moved a lot of the furniture around and have new floors since last year, I was very excited to deck out the dining room. Again, we aren’t too typical around here, we do not have a formal dining space. We usually eat breakfast and lunch at the kitchen counter and dinner in at the table. So for the rest of the day the table is an art station, homework station and where we play board games. Keeping that in mind, I wanted to have decor that could easily be moved out of the way.
This tiered tray centerpiece was the perfect solution. As it is still early fall and sort of back to school time, I have themed it around apples and acorns. I also layered in some faux succulents and floral to add some color. Tiered trays are so useful and fun, they can hold extras like silverware or cups. Or simply be decorative. Plus, if you need these items up and out of the way, they travel well.
When I think of Autumn, the first thing that comes to mind is the beautiful backdrop of leaves changing color. Unfortunately our leaves don’t change until January..if they do AT ALL! So, I have to find some other ways to bring in those fall feels. Like these yellow flowers, the spicy smell of cinnamon sticks and the sweet scent of warm cinnamon rolls or an apple pie make a home smell like fall.
At the end of our table are these shelves. I added a few fall touches to these with some strategically placed apples and a light board sign switch up. As October and November roll around I will replace all the apples with pumpkins and gourds. I am trying to be careful this year not to add too much, because I can get bored quickly.
Behind the dining area, in the window we have this table that I have made into a bench or window seat. It is one of my favorite spots to hang and look out the window. For fall, I switched out some plain white pillow covers for this Pumpkin Spice cover from Linen & Ivory and added some stripes. Also, I got a little mad about plaid, but it’s perfect for the season.
One way I like to transition easily into the cooler seasons is adding more throws and warmer textures in linens. The velvet and leather pillow are perfect for adding a cozy warmth.
Connected to the dining space over in the kitchen I brought out a few fall touches. First, by changing out my white flowers for some burgundy and cranberry.
Then, swapping out some of my blue kitchen wares for copper. Plus, for a touch more color, I placed some yellow flowers in the wreath above my sink.
Finally, it would not be fall, without a little Miami Football. College football season has officially started and we are ready, as always, to support our ‘Canes!
If you are looking for some more ways to decorate for fall, without pumpkins I have rounded up 5 ways to decorate for Fall, no pumpkins allowed, here.
